Last week, we introduced the four personality styles and explained how understanding them can improve communication, rapport and trust.
Before we continue, here is a reminder of the four personality styles:

This week, let's focus on the Direct Personality.
Direct personalities make up around 10% of the population and are often found in leadership positions.
These people are results-focused, decisive and like making progress.
They generally prefer action over discussion.
How to spot them
- They speak quickly.
- They get straight to the point.
- They ask fewer personal questions.
- They are task-focused.
- They like efficiency.
Words that work well
Direct personalities often respond positively to phrases such as:
- "To help you achieve better results..."
- "The quickest way to achieve this is..."
- "This will save you time..."
- "Here's the most effective option..."
Words to avoid
- Long explanations.
- Excessive detail.
- Indecision.
- "What would you like to do?"
Direct personalities often prefer:
"Based on what you've told me, I recommend..."
Remember, they value confidence and direction.
Next week we'll look at the Interactive Personality.
Humour
I used to be a banker, but I lost interest.
My wife told me I never listen to her. At least I think that's what she said.
I accidentally swallowed some food colouring. The doctor says I'm okay, but I feel like I've dyed a little inside.
I asked the librarian if she had any books on turtles. "Hardback?" she asked. "Yes," I replied, "with little heads."
