Professor of Psychology, Ed Diener, once said,
“The aim of life is to die young as late as possible.”
I like that.
Here are a few reminders on how to live that way.
Your value never changes
Take a £20 note.
Crumple it up.
Throw it on the floor.
Step on it a few times.
It might look tired and worn, but it is still worth £20.
The same is true of you.
What happens to you does not change your value.
Express what is inside you
Whatever life you have in you, express it.
If you feel like baking cakes, bake them.
If you want to try stand-up comedy, try it.
If you want to run a marathon, start training.
Overcome the inertia and do something.
The act of expression increases awareness, flow and happiness.
Change the routine
Take a small risk.
Do something different.
If your body is tired, sleep helps.
But if your soul is tired, sleep is not enough.
Example:
Take a different route home.
Say yes to something you would normally avoid.
Do one thing that makes your soul feel lighter.
Have a daily anchor
Every day, make sure you:
Love someone.
Believe in something.
Hope for something.
When you are clear on your why, the how tends to show up.
Get outside
Spend time in nature.
This is our true nature.
Humans have become too domesticated. We were born to be wild.
There may be no Wi-Fi in the forest, but you will find a better connection.
Example:
Go for a walk without your phone.
Sit somewhere green and do nothing for ten minutes.
Let your mind reset.

Humour
They say 50 is the new 40. Try telling that to a police officer holding a speed gun.
Do you remember when your mother’s voice was so loud and angry that even the neighbour’s children brushed their teeth and got dressed?
