Your mindset is your prospecting superpower
Prospecting is as much about attitude as it is about strategy. A strong mindset can transform the way you approach every interaction.
The mindset that wins prospects
- Be curious, not salesy. Think of prospecting as a way to learn about people, not sell to them.
- Detach from outcomes. Whether they say yes or no, your goal is to start a conversation.
- Embrace rejection. Every “no” brings you closer to the next “yes.”
Why your energy matters
People respond to your energy before your words. If you’re stressed or desperate, they’ll sense it. Approach each interaction with calm confidence, and prospects will naturally open up.
A quick exercise to reset your mindset
Before prospecting, take two minutes to ask yourself:
- “What value can I offer today?”
- “What can I learn from this person?”
- “How can I make this conversation enjoyable for both of us?”
Story: The power of positivity
I once approached a prospect after a series of rejections. Instead of letting my frustration show, I decided to focus on being genuinely interested in them. The result? A 20-minute conversation that turned into a partnership.
Humour
My prospecting mindset: Coffee first, then conquer.
They say confidence is key. I lost mine once—it had to be rekeyed.
My energy was so off once that the prospect asked, “Are you selling or apologizing?”
