Turning “No” into “Not Yet”

What to do when a prospect says no

A “no” today doesn’t mean “no” forever—it often means “not yet.”

How to handle a “no” gracefully

  1. Thank them for their time. It leaves a positive impression.
  2. Ask for feedback. “What’s holding you back right now?”
  3. Stay in touch. Follow up periodically with helpful content or updates.

Story: When a no became a yes

A prospect once told me, “This isn’t the right time.”

I replied, “No problem—can I send you updates that might help in the future?”

They agreed, and six months later, they reached out ready to move forward.

Humour

My favourite response to a “no”? “That’s fine. I’m still awesome.”

A prospect said, “No, thanks.” I said, “Thanks for the no!” They laughed, and we kept talking.

Why do I love hearing “no”? Because it’s better than silence.
