Rapport in 60 Seconds

One minute to win a prospect’s trust

The first 60 seconds of any conversation set the tone. Use them wisely.

The 60-second rapport formula

  1. Start with a smile. Yes, even on video calls—it’s contagious.
  2. Ask a personal question. Example: “What’s something fun you’ve done recently?”
  3. Find common ground. A simple “Me too!” goes a long way.

Practice makes perfect

I used to stumble through my openings until I practiced a simple formula:

  • A quick intro.
  • A question about them.
  • A statement that shows genuine interest.

The more I practiced, the more natural it felt—and the better the results.

Humour

They say you have 60 seconds to make a first impression. I’m on second 59, sweating bullets

My first attempt at rapport: “How’s the weather?” Turns out, they were in another country.

Building rapport in 60 seconds? Easier than cooking instant noodles—barely.
