The Icebreaker Advantage

Mastering the perfect opening line

First impressions matter. The right opening line can mean the difference between awkward silence and a meaningful conversation.

Why icebreakers work

Icebreakers aren’t just about starting conversations—they set the tone for trust and connection. The simpler, the better.

Three icebreakers that work every time

  1. “What’s been keeping you busy lately?” – Shows genuine interest without being intrusive.
  2. “What’s one thing you’re excited about this week?” – Encourages positivity and engagement.
  3. “What inspired you to choose your current career?” – Opens the door to meaningful insights.

What NOT to do

Avoid scripted lines that feel salesy. Prospects can sense insincerity a mile away.

Humour

I used to open conversations with, “Do you believe in magic?” Turns out, not everyone does.

I tried an icebreaker once and accidentally caused an avalanche.

My best icebreaker? “I’m terrible at small talk, so let’s skip to the good stuff.”
