“This isn’t fair!”

The universe is biased towards people with skills.

  • They earn more
  • Feel happier
  • Accomplish incredible feats
  • Reach their dreams

… and it is so unfair.

People without skills work hard, longer … and don’t get the same rewards.

If we want to do more, get rewarded more, and be happier, then we will want to learn more skills. We don’t want to be like the person who graduates from university and says, “I’m done with learning. This is as good as I will get.”

Power in these phrases

If we don’t think words make a difference, try using these phrases and observe how our prospects react:

  • “Guess what happened to me?”
  • “I have a good story.”
  • “Here is the short story.”
  • “Would you like to know how I did it?”
  • “Would it be okay if?”
  • “There is an old saying.”
  • “Most people don’t realize this.”
  • “Let me share a secret with you.”

Prospects will react. Words make the difference.

Re-think how we talk to prospects

Our human brains are optimized for our ancestors. They had to worry about saber-tooth tigers and what to eat tomorrow.

They didn’t have to worry about retirement plans, insurance costs, inflation, math, taxes and commuting problems.

So, when we talk more about “now” and less about the “future” … we connect with our prospects’ brains. Something to think about before our next presentation.

Another way to get great, pre-sold prospects

Leads, networking events, advertising, referrals. Great ways to prospect for new team members. But consider this.

What if we made our offer so compelling that people would seek us out?

Changing our offer is magical. Here is a simple example.

You: “Hey Bernie. Let’s go for a walk. We can get a little exercise and fresh air.”

Bernie: “Uh, no. Sounds like I would have to make an effort.”

You: “Hey Bernie. Let’s walk over to the local donut shop. I heard they put fresh grease in the deep fryer.”

Bernie: “I am holding the door open already. Hurry up. Let’s go.”

Biology teacher: "What happens when the human body is immersed in water?"

Student: "The telephone rings"

 

Teacher: "Where's the English Channel?"

Pupil: "I don't know. My TV doesn't pick it up."

 

Angry father: "Just look at this report card! Your friend John doesn't come home with C's and D's on his report card!"
