I wasn’t very good

When I started my speaking and coaching career, I wasn’t very good. That is code for, “I was awful. I earned zero.”

You might be thinking, “You got what you deserved. You got paid zero because you got zero results.”

Fair enough. Accurate.

Now, technically it wasn’t my fault. I didn’t learn advanced communication skills in school, and my job did not teach me communication skills. So of course, my work produced continuous rejection and defeat.

My choices at that point?

  1. Quit
  2. Just be an inactive statistic
  3. Take responsibility and learn new skills

The answer seems obvious now but wasn’t at the time. I didn’t know what I didn’t know, so I didn’t even know what to learn. Pathetic … but true.

Today, we have great speaking and communication skills anyone can learn. So give your inactive professional colleges the three choices above. Yes, they can stay as an inactive statistic, but at least let them know they could learn the missing skills to make a success of their career...

But … but … I can’t tell a story

Stories are the best way to communicate our message to prospects. Can we learn better story techniques? Yes!

Now some professionals say, “I can’t tell a story. I don’t know where and how to start.”
