Got critics?

Q. Why do professionals or professions have critics?

A. Because these critics had a bad experience.

Sometime the critics tried something in their past that didn’t work out. That didn’t feel good, and criticizing others is part of their therapy. It reminds them not to try anything in the future.

As humans, we make many of our judgments based on past experiences. So, their criticism isn't about us. It is about their past. Not us.

We should expect criticism if we try to improve our lives. Critics have no incentive to criticize people sitting idle and doing nothing. In a way, we should feel flattered that our efforts stood out.

It is okay to ignore a critic and leave that person stuck in their miserable past.

“I wouldn’t feel comfortable changing my Advisor.”

No one feels comfortable with change. No one feels comfortable with trying something new. That is normal.

But here is the real question our prospects must ask themselves:

“Is what I want for my future … bigger than the discomfort of joining your business?”

This is so wrong!

Most Professionals think prospects make decisions based upon facts. So, pour on more facts.

The reality?

Prospects make decisions based upon solving their problems. It is all about them and their problems. Prospects don’t care about us, and they care even less about what we represent.

The road to happy prospecting has a shortcut. Fix prospects’ problems.

Here is a roadmap:

  1. Listen for our prospects’ problems.
  2. If we can help them, ask if they would like to know how we could help.
  3. If we can’t help them, don’t bother them with what we offer.
